Carmel Caterpillars Pre-School

Outside Space/ Garden policy

Policy Statement

Carmel Caterpillars Pre-School understand the importance of playing outside on a daily basis, and will provide an outdoor environment that supports all seven areas of learning and development which is accessible to all children, throughout the day, and in all weathers. This includes physical activities, sand and/or water play, role play, and other resources, subject to weather.

We encourage the children whenever possible to free flow in and out, and therefore keep the doors open throughout the day, in all weathers. Risk assessments are carried out daily to ensure the outside space and equipment is safe, for children to use.

Procedures

  • All parents and staff are made aware of this policy.
  • Risk assessments are carried out, and recorded daily.
  • No less than 2 members of staff will be outside with the children. the ratio of children/adults will rise when more children access the garden.
  • Staff are vigilant at all times.
  • Secured fencing is in place at all times.
  • All children to be suitably dressed for the weather conditions.
  • All children should be able to access the outside area at all times. If a child is unwell and unable to do so, then they should not be in Pre-School.
