Carmel Caterpillars Pre-School
Emergency Evacuation Procedure
Fire Procedure
- In the event of a fire the person to discover the fire will blow on the nearest whistle, which are located by the kitchen door and the main entrance door.
- All children and staff will immediately stop what they are doing and assemble by the nearest fire exit, furthest away from the fire.
- The kitchen, toilets and porch are checked for staff and children.
- The Administrator, or other member of staff, will collect the phone, register and children information file, kept on the Administrator's desk.
- We will all make our way calmly to the small park opposite Chapel Cars/Mabs Car Valeting, where the register will be called.
- The Fire Brigade will be called giving details of where the fire is.
- An allocated member of staff will notify the Pre-School opposite and the staff in the garage, and will then wait at the bottom of the road to direct the Fire Brigade to the hall.
- Once all the children and staff are accounted for, parents will be notified by telephone, to come and collect their child.
- Under no circumstances will staff or children be allowed in to the hall to collect personal belongings, until the Fire Brigade say it is safe to do so.
Emergency/Incident Procedure
- In the event of any other emergency, including flood, bomb alert, act of terrorism etc, the whistle will sound.
- All children will be calmly gathered together in a "safe" area, dependant on the nature of the emergency. The safe areas are: The park opposite Chapel Cars/Mabs Car Valeting Meadowfields School, Ufton Lane Area underneath the stage in Carmel Hall
- In the event of a bomb scare, the staff will take the children calmly to the designated area at Meadowfields School, Ufton Lane, which is deemed a safe distance from the Pre-School.
- If safe to do so, children and staff will congregate in the park, as per the Fire Procedure.
- If it is not safe to remove the children from the setting, the children will be kept calm within the setting, with all access windows and doors locked.
- In the event of an attack, or threatening person(s) directly in the setting itself, staff and child will congregate under the stage.
- Emergency services will be called and their advice followed.
- We will do our upmost to keep your children calm and safe until we are in a position to contact you/return them to you, or a nominated person.
