Maintaining children's safety and security on the premises Policy

Policy Statement 

 

We maintain the highest possible security of our premises to ensure that each child is safely cared for during their time with us

 

Procedures

Children's personal safety 

  • We ensure all employed staff have been checked for criminal records by an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal records Bureau
  • All children are supervised by staff at all times
  • Whenever the children are on the premises the staff ratio is adhered to.
  • Whenever the children are taken in to the Community, staff ratios are adhered to. 
  • we carry out risk assessment to ensure children are not made vulnerable within any part of our premises, nor by any activity.

 

Security

  • A Password system is in place for the safe arrival and departure of children
  • The times of the children's arrivals and departures are recorded. 
  • The arrival and departure times of adults, staff, volunteers and visitors, are recorded.
  • Our systems prevent unauthorised access to our premises. No one can gain entry in to the premises without a member of staff allowing them in. This excludes the caretaker of the premises, however staff are present at all times. 
  • Our systems prevent children from leaving our premises unnoticed.

Safeguarding Statement

Carmel Caterpillars is committed to the safeguarding of all its learners, staff and visitors.

 

Safeguarding is a priority with arrangements in place to ensure learners feel and are safe on school premises and during offsite activities.

The learner experience and individual achievement are paramount and safeguarding initiatives are developed to impact positively upon this.

The Preschool ensures safeguarding legislation and guidelines are adhered to and taken into account when developing and revisiting policies, procedures and associated arrangements.

The Preschool provides a safe physical environment for its learners and staff, ensuring the premises are of a good standard.

Health and safety arrangements are in place to ensure adherence to current legislation and guidance

The Preschool includes questioning at the interview stage, verification of appropriate qualifications, acquiring references and necessary safety checks.

The preschool has a designated safeguarding lead (DSL) responsible for child protection, supporting staff and carrying out their safeguarding duties and working closely with other services.

The Preschool has policies and procedures in place to deal efficiently with child protection and safeguarding issues, together with recording and monitoring processes.

It is a condition of employment that all staff are trained to a level appropriate to their safeguarding responsibility.

The Preschool‘s commitment to safeguarding is paramount to the success of the learners.

Committee members, senior management team and the safeguarding working team will continue to keep on top of developments in the area and implement arrangements to continually improve the safety and awareness of its learners, staff and volunteers.
